In an Australian first, Tasmania has become the first state in the country to launch a dedicated brand store on Amazon Australia.
The move represents a strategic investment by the Tasmanian Government to provide additional support to local exporters as they look recover from the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tasmanian Brand Store is designed to support Tasmanian businesses in showcasing their retail products directly to the rest of the country. It aims to leverage the unique local stories behind individual products and provide customers with an enhanced shopping experience.
The move highlights the potential power of place branding and follows on from the state’s investment in Brand Tasmania – a new Tasmanian Government agency charged with the unifying the Tasmanian story. In Brand Tasmania’s words, “Our mission is to inspire and encourage Tasmanians, and those who want to be Tasmanian, to quietly pursue the extraordinary.”
The new eCommerce platform is part of a broader strategy being implemented by the Tasmanian Government, including an action plan to grow the states exports to $15 billion by 2050. Launched in February 2021, the Tasmanian Brand Store has kicked off with five well-known local exporters – McHenry’s Distillery, Tasman Sea Salt, Hartshorn Distillery, Coaldale Walnuts and The Tasmanian Tonic Company. The invitation to join the brand store has now been extended to other Tasmanian businesses.
