“Proud to be CPM of the Year – and share this award with my wider team”

The Australian Marketing Institute is the preeminent industry association for marketeers in Australia, and each year they celebrate excellence through their awards programme, including an individual category of Certified Practicing Marketer (CPM).

It was indeed an honour to be the recipient of the 2017 CPM of the Year, to be recognised by my peers as to the contribution I have made to the industry; but more importantly recognition to some of the outcomes that the Marketing & Communications team has delivered in Arup over the last few years; notably significant growth in the brand profile and supporting our client centric approach; resulting in receiving the AFR Client Choice award for the best large professional services firm in 2017.

Having recently organised for our marketing leaders from around Arup to meet in London, I was not only blown away by the marketing work we produce as a firm worldwide, but especially by the amazing work the Australasian marketing team produces that is truly best in class. Our visual communications work is so well received we’ve had to grow the team to keep up with demand. Our integrated marketing campaigns and client feedback programmes have resulted in some interesting and exciting opportunities. Our events continue to draw crowds interested in hearing what’s next in shaping vibrant cities; and as an employee owned firmed we also deliver a thorough programme of internal communications to ensure that everyone in the firm feels they can keep up to date as to our business.

We are recognised as important business partners – a position that we have been cultivating in the 8 years I have been in the company. And this success is very much a testament to the widespread network of marketing communications, business development, corporate and visual communications professionals that I am privileged to work with every day.

With a great team besides me, I have taken on some new adventures, such as tutoring at the UTS Business School, keynote engagements at conferences and board advisory roles. The B2B marketing space is a challenging, especially professional services when you’re selling skills and people! –and I am thoroughly enjoying working with up and coming marketing professionals as they look to start their careers.
