Welcome to the December edition of the Australian Marketing Institute newsletter. The Australian Marketing Institute has been working towards the goal of advancing the recognition of marketing as a true profession and providing value to our members. It is important that we continue to advance the marketing profession as the natural custodians of the customer, with responsibility for commercial outcomes in generating existing and future revenue and growth opportunities for organisations. We also believe it’s increasingly important that our members continue to grow as professionals to ensure they remain relevant and successfully deliver on this mandate.
Since my last report in May, the team have been busy reinventing the way we execute our mandate. Here’s a update of what we’ve been doing at AMI:
Celebrating marketing excellence through our Awards program
We’re excited to announce that the premier event of the Marketing calendar, our Awards Ceremony and AMI Marketing Excellence Gala will be held at Pullman Melbourne in the Park on 16 October 2019. Open to everyone, this year the AMI Marketing Excellence Gala will see an expected 500 industry professionals attend. It’s the night of night for marketing professionals to recognise and celebrate marketing excellence across Australia, catch up with peers, and network. If you’re a marketing professional, academic or industry partner you don’t want to miss out, so recommend you get in early and secure a spot. Tickets are selling fast and spots are limited!
Certified Practising Marketer (CPM)
Championing the reputation of marketing as a true profession, the application process, transparent peer review system and Professional Maintenance Program for the Certified Practising Marketer (CPM) designation is now being improved. We’ve also been educating Members and Industry Partners around the CPM designation as a trust mark for qualified professionals, which is the gold standard for marketers.
Professional development, knowledge, content and thought leadership
The team are also reviewing the Professional Development programs currently in place, ensuring they are aligned with the needs of the industry so that we can better advance the proficiency and capability of Australian marketers. There are some exciting things in the pipeline, so keep an eye out in the newsletters for upcoming training opportunities.
In addition to professional development, we’ve been sharing more and more member stories about the incredible marketers in the AMI Marketing Community. You might have seen some of this thought leadership from our members circulated on social media. If you have news to tell, don’t forget to tag @Australian Marketing Institute on social media so we can share your achievements with the community.
Accreditation of tertiary courses and programs
The Professional Advancement Committee have been hard at work providing educators with industry feedback, knowledge, and experience for curriculum development and improvement. The Australian Marketing Institute’s Accreditation, Endorsement or Recognition will ensure continued professional relevance for marketing graduates, enabling them to perform at a high level in a changing and competitive business environment.
Fostering member collaboration and networking
The State Finalist Reveal events are still rolling out across states. I personally attended the Victorian event and it was not only a lot of fun networking with peers over a drink, it was also a great opportunity to celebrate the great work by so many marketing professionals who have made a big impact with their work.
Coming up there are multiple networking events in South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Be sure to check the AMI website to see what’s happening in your state.
We’ve also been partnering with some great organisations who offer discounts and exclusive opportunities to AMI members. Last month our members attended World Business Forum’s event with Martha Rogers, CMO Summit, Intrigue Summit, CMO Momentum, Brene Brown and Jack Daly events to name a few. If you have the chance, don’t miss out on Melbourne Business School’s Brand Management program in Sydney at the end of August with Mark Ritson. There’s also Growth Faculty’s Chris McChesney event – I hear early bird rates end on Friday!
Professional standards and code of conduct for members
In addition to our Professional Code of Conduct, we are now in the process of creating a Code of Professional Ethics for Australian Marketers. As the custodians of trust and reputation in an organisation, it is imperative that marketers adhere to these codes to ensure that Marketing is recognised as a true profession. If you have any input here, please be sure to let us know.
Promote and advocate the status and interests of members and the profession
AMI and Engine have conducted a State of Marketing Professionalism in Australia Survey to explore perceptions of the industry towards marketing as a profession and how it has evolved in response to growing market demands. Keep an eye out for the survey findings report which will be released in the next month.
