CPM Spotlight: Olena Sydorenko

At the age of 17 I was considering my professional options when a career advisor suggested I read a Kotler book on marketing. I took the advice that day and could not put the book down until 4 o’clock the next morning. In less than 24 hours I had fallen completely in love with marketing and determined my future career path.

Of course, marketing has changed enormously since then. It is one of the fastest-changing disciplines, so I have never stopped absorbing new knowledge. Following the completion of my bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics (major in marketing), I continued to study at the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and later gained my master’s degree in marketing at UNSW.

In my early 30s I finally decided to finish gathering tertiary qualifications. The logical question appeared – what’s next? Part of the answer was to become the Certified Marketing Professional with the Australian Marketing Institute. I am very proud to call AMI a long-term, loyal client. It is an amazing team working behind the scenes. And now I am even prouder to be recognised as a Certified Practising Marketer (CPM), knowing that my ongoing professional development is under control.

While CPM status is the highest recognition in the industry, I didn’t apply for the credibility or post-nominal letters. I applied to ensure I would never stop developing my skills and growing as a marketing professional. Sometimes trying to keep up with all the latest marketing trends can feel like chasing a unicorn, but it’s only by making a little effort every single day that we continue to learn.
